Who are you planning to invite to your “Lights On Afterschool” event this year? The nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement, and this year observes its 20th anniversary
Throughout the state of Michigan, public libraries serve as a resource for afterschool partnerships and programs for students in their service area.
When the dismissal bell rings at the end of the day, many students and staff like myself at Springport Middle School aren’t going home. Instead, we are choosing to go to Highfields Reaching Higher Afterschool Program. During this time, students receive one-on-one or small group time with a teacher, participate in whole group team-building activities, and explore different enrichment experiences of their choosing.
Whether you’re an afterschool provider excited every day about helping kids learn; a community-minded partner who willingly donates resources to programs in a local school or community center; or a parent happy to spread the good word about the benefits of a “seamless day of learning,” you’re an advocate for afterschool.
