The Michigan After-School Partnership Presents ReCharge Implementation Opportunity

Action for Healthy Kids, in partnership with the National Football League, developed ReCharge! Energizing After-School ™, the first nationally distributed after-school program that fully integrates nutrition and physical activity through teamwork-based strategies for youth in grades 3 – 6.

ReCharge! addresses national education standards for health education, physical activity and family involvement, as well as the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Since its introduction in fall 2005, ReCharge! has been distributed to over 8,000 after-school programs across the country, reaching over half a million students.

 

 

The Michigan After-School Partnership is looking for forty-five sites willing to implement ReCharge! (valued at $225) into their program to help youth become physically active and learn about good nutrition. One or two activity leader(s) from each selected site will be required to attend a free ReCharge! training and kick-off event on May 28, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Lansing, MI.  Each implementation site must schedule a minimum of 29 activities by November 2009; and obtain parental permission for students to participate in pre- and post- evaluation surveys, which will occur at the ReCharge! program's initiation and completion.

 

The following criteria will be used to select Pilot programs for ReCharge!:

  • Geographic location
  • Agreement to implement by November 2009
  • Agreement to participate in the student evaluation surveys
  • Age range of youth served
  • Type of program
  • Priority will be given to programs which provide evidence of capacity/experience
